Hull #001 of the ECLIPSE 505 was released from its mold last week at Two Oceans Marine Manufacturing’s dedicated ECLIPSE production facility in Cape Town, South Africa.   Every aspect of the ECLIPSE 505’s production is being scrutinized by the elite teams involved. The lamination of each hull with its complex Michael Peters SVVT geometry is no exception to this intense attention to detail. The golden-brown coloration of the 505 Hull you are seeing in these photos is from the intentional use of a “clear” gel coat. With each ECLIPSE hull receiving a painted finish as standard, adding this step allows engineers to confirm each hull is perfectly laminated by Two Oceans Marine Manufacturing upon release from the mold as all surfaces are literally transparent. Lamination is one thing, but meeting Michael Peters Yacht Design’s stringent weight specifications is another. Without strict adherence to weights and measures the ECLIPSE 505 will not perform as designed. All models from the ECLIPSE lineup feature Mercury 600hp V12 outboard engines: The 505 is equipped with twins, while the 505 Shadow features triple outboard motors. The Mercury Marine 600 horsepower outboard motors are exceptionally quiet engines due to two speed transmissions supported by the abundance of low-end torque a V12 block affords, which translates to much lower operating RPMs, lower fuel burn which translates to increased fuel economy, and incredible overall efficiency. The additional horsepower achieves the absolute pinnacle of performance within this class of express cruisers.
